Billie joined us at five months of age and settled in from the very first day. She instantly found her place in the family — especially with Ocean, who happily took on the role as her big brother.

Billie had a big presence at home and strong opinions about most things. She was my little shadow — wherever I went, she followed — and her favourite place in the world was my lap. At night she slept tucked close beside me, completely content.

She was a happy and playful girl with a big personality. Ocean was her greatest love — after me, of course — and she greeted him with pure excitement every single time he came home, always inviting him to play.

Billie knew exactly what she wanted. She could be wonderfully stubborn — especially when it came to fixing her top knot — and she was extremely food motivated, often sitting by the kitchen to politely remind us that she could possibly eat again.

When she relaxed, she relaxed fully — usually looking as if she had simply fainted in total peace.

Billie was never just one of our dogs. She was my girl, my little shadow, and my constant companion. She had chosen me as her person, and there was never any doubt about where she wanted to be — right by my side.

Losing her has left an emptiness that words cannot describe. She was mine, and I was hers.
